Known as one of the best places in the world for big game sportfishing, Quepos is a small town some 160 km from San Jose in Puntarenas province. Located on Costa Rica’s central Pacific coast, Quepos is a beautiful place to enjoy a nice relaxing weekend. A three-hour drive from San Jose, you will need to pass through the towns of Atenas, Orotina, Tarcoles, Jaco and Parrita on the way here. A quick way to get here would be to fly in on a domestic flight from the Juan Santa Maria International Airport, and then take a quick drive to Quepos.

Well known throughout the country as a key fishing town, Quepos offers tourists not only fantastic fishing opportunities but also plenty of other activities to indulge in as well. This town has a number of reasonably priced hotels, accommodations and luxury resorts scattered all over the place, as well as many fine restaurants, lounges and bars. The town center is a charming square filled with many eateries, hotels, art galleries and shops, all situated on the beach front. If you happen to visit here during festival times, the streets are filled with dancing, parades and concerts.

Although Costa Rica is a small country--just a speck on that map to your left--it is far ahead of its neighbors when it comes to luxury hotels. Costa Rica's tourism people have done a great job of marketing the destination over the past two decades and the throngs of visitors from the U.S. and Canada have led to high standards and a lot of foreign investment. Costa Rica probably has the best-developed array of upscale hotels of any country.
Costa Rica was the first country in the region to go all out luring adventure travelers and eco-travelers, so the main focus is usually interacting with nature rather than trying to hold it back and seal it off.
There are beach resorts, yes, but the coast here is not as spectacular as it it in some neighboring countries.
What you will find in Costa Rica is a strong supply of hotel architects, designers, and managers who know how to compete with the best hotels in the world. Facilities and services are better-developed here than in many other Latin American countries and the staffers are generally better trained and more fluent in English than in regions further behind on the tourism development stages.
Come for a heavy dose of adventure, but with a sumptuous room to retire to as the sun goes down.
